“I failed to tell you this is the first time my puppy has seen sand and the ocean. She went crazy at the end of the boardwalk, running around me until the lead wrapped my legs so tightly I couldn’t stand up. And no one could help me because they were all laughing so hard.”

At 6:45 in the morning Jacquline’s horse had no interest in posing with her head held high and ears pointing forward. The lawn between the driveway and this wonderful fence was all she cared about. The pattern of light and shadow from the early morning sun created just the right setting for a delightful equine portrait.

Lauren is a physical therapist who worked with me after surgery last year. In gratitude for the wonderful job she did getting me ready for skiing and hiking again, I invited her to bring her dog into the studio for this black and white “connections” portrait.

Even with his winter coat this jet black gelding sparkled in the early winter light. Not often can I capture such an amazing coat after it's grown out for the winter.

Deb has been a dear friend and client for many years. When she hired me to create a new business portrait for her with her horse I was more than delighted. Showing the connections between my clients and the animals they own is just as rewarding as doing childhood portraits because the love and caring in their faces can not be matched.

"Oh this will be easy, we'll just shake a bucket of grain out here and they will all pop their heads out for you to take a picture!"

Well, I've been around horses too long to buy that one. This image is a perfect example of what I mean when I say, "The art and magic of photography is the ability to capture what cannot be seen."
